ERR: The Exercise Receptors
Estrogen-related receptors (ERRs) are nuclear receptors that control the metabolic gene programs exercise activates — mitochondrial biogenesis, fat oxidation, endurance adaptation. SLU-PP-332 activates them directly, switching on those endurance-type programs without the mechanical stimulus of training.
It's part of the same 'exercise mimetic' research thread as AICAR and MOTS-c, but targets a different layer. MOTS-c and AICAR act at the AMPK energy-sensor layer; SLU-PP-332 acts downstream at the nuclear-receptor transcription layer that actually reprograms gene expression. Members compare these compounds to map the multiple pathways exercise engages — and to think about which layer, if any, a therapeutic might target. The thread below covers the mechanistic differences in detail.
