Overview
Sermorelin is the biologically active 1-29 fragment of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) and is one of the few GH secretagogues with prior FDA approval (for diagnostic testing of GH deficiency). Unlike exogenous GH, it stimulates the body's own pulsatile GH release, preserving the physiological feedback that direct GH replacement bypasses.
Mechanism of action
Sermorelin is native GRF(1-29) — the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone-releasing hormone, which retain full biological activity. It binds GHRH receptors on pituitary somatotrophs to stimulate endogenous, pulsatile growth hormone release. Because it amplifies the body's own GH signal rather than replacing it, the natural feedback regulation (including somatostatin braking) is preserved, in contrast to exogenous somatropin which suppresses endogenous production.
