Overview
A synthetic ghrelin-receptor (GHS-R1a) agonist that stimulates growth hormone release from the pituitary, researched for body composition and recovery. It is more potent than GHRP-6 at eliciting GH pulses but, like other GHRPs, can increase appetite and may raise cortisol and prolactin at higher doses.
Mechanism of action
GHRP-2 agonizes the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the pituitary and hypothalamus, amplifying growth hormone release in a pulse-dependent manner. It acts synergistically with GHRH analogs — the two pathways converge on the somatotroph to produce a larger combined GH pulse than either alone. Compared to ipamorelin, GHRP-2 produces a stronger GH signal but with more off-target effects on appetite and the cortisol/prolactin axes.
