NNMT: An Enzyme That Burns Your Methyl Donors

By Editorial Team

NNMT (nicotinamide N-methyltransferase) is upregulated in obesity and some cancers, and it consumes methyl donors (SAMe) while reducing NAD⁺. 5-Amino-1MQ inhibits NNMT, theoretically preserving NAD⁺ and shifting adipocyte metabolism toward lipolysis and energy expenditure.

Important caveat: this compound is a small molecule, not a peptide, and the evidence is almost entirely preclinical. This thread keeps the discussion anchored to the published mechanism and the limitations of the current data.
