Overview
An acetylated octapeptide (Acetyl Octapeptide-3) designed to soften expression lines by a mechanism analogous to botulinum toxin — interfering with the SNARE complex that releases acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, but topically and far more mildly. It is the cosmetic, non-invasive cousin of injectable wrinkle relaxers.
Mechanism of action
Snap-8 is an elongated, acetylated variant of the earlier hexapeptide Argireline. It interferes with the SNARE protein complex (specifically SNAP-25) that enables acetylcholine vesicle release at the neuromuscular junction, reducing the muscle contractions that create expression lines. The mechanism is conceptually the same as botulinum toxin (block acetylcholine release, relax the muscle) but the effect is far weaker and delivered topically rather than injected — a non-invasive, daily-use approach rather than a Botox replacement.
