Overview
Adipotide (FTTP) is an experimental peptidomimetic designed to target the blood supply of white fat, inducing apoptosis of adipose tissue vasculature. In preclinical models it produced weight loss by selectively destroying the blood vessels feeding fat deposits. It is highly experimental and not approved for any use.
Mechanism of action
Adipotide is a chimeric molecule with a homing domain that binds prohibitin (expressed on white-adipose-tissue vasculature) and a pro-apoptotic domain that disrupts mitochondrial membranes of the targeted endothelial cells. This selectively kills the blood supply feeding fat deposits, causing adipose tissue to regress. The mechanism is cytotoxic and distinct from appetite- or energy-based approaches.
